Falling in Love
Thirty-six questions, in order, in a single evening
In 1997 a social psychology study tried to manufacture intimacy in a laboratory: two strangers, thirty-six questions in three escalating sets, and four minutes of eye contact at the end. It worked, and the protocol has been travelling ever since. This deck follows its shape, with questions of our own. Two people, in order, no skipping and no interruptions: it takes an hour and a half and a place where nobody will bother you.
Some questions from this deck
- What is the smallest thing that improved your day this week?
- Which habit of yours would be hard to explain to someone who does not know you?
- What did you love doing at ten, and would happily do now?
- Where do you feel most like yourself, and what is there?
- Which subject could you hear about for hours without getting bored?
- What did you learn recently that surprised you?
- What do you spend on without thinking, and what do you always save on?
- Which flaw of yours can you laugh at?
The deck holds 29 more questions: they are drawn at random, on three levels of depth, from light to deep.
